WHERE WILL YOU GO WHEN THE WORLD ENDS?
The year is 2993 AR. The world is slated to end in the year 3000 AR, fulfilling the prophecy of reset since the last apocalypse in 0 AR. Most do not know and continue their lives as normal. The few who do have no idea how to prevent it so they warn the masses, even if their words fall on deaf ears. All, seemingly, is doomed as it was three thousand years ago.The only sign of hope is from the deities. In hibernation since the apocalypse, they haven't responded to calls or answered prayers in the way they did before. Despite this they are the last bastion of hope in a doomed world. The story follows Medkit as he tries to find a way to wake up one of the deities, Windforce, from her eternal slumber. Trapped in between this task, his recent escape from Blackrock, and new job as an illegal brimstone processor, he's ripped from his world and forced into reality quicker than his guilt can resolve itself.

FORETOLD IN TEXTS
BrimstonesBrimstones are a hard organ that reside in a demon's throat near their spine. They are what attune a demon to the metaphysical and allow them to summon their gear. Brimstones also house a demon's soul, and if broken it will kill them almost instantly. Enough time away from a brimstone or excess damage will also cause death. They can be modified, cleansed of a demon's soul but still retain the original gear, and put in other demons as a form of gear replacement.
Revival and the "Soulless"If a demon is killed but still has their brimstone in tact they can undergo a ritual of revival performed by a third party. By breaking the brimstone the third party can bring back the dead in their image- not a direct 1 to 1 of the dead. This has the side effect of, usually, creating an echo of who that infernal once was. With pure intentions and enough personal knowledge of the dead the third party can get close to a direct revival but it will never be exact. These zombies are referred to as "soulless" in reference to their brimstoneless existence, unable to die unless murdered. Doing this to another demon is considered incredibly taboo and selfish despite potential for success.
The MetaphysicalThe metaphysical is in reference to the "second dimension" in connection to the main reality, known as the originator of all magical things such as dark magicks, gear related magicks, and the deities themselves. Connection to the metaphysical grants access to these concepts but direction alteration is not known to be possible, only able to take from it's flow of "consciousness" to perform magick. Many respect the metaphysical alongside the deities and acknowledge it's influence on the main reality.
BR, AR, and the 3000 Year ResetBR and AR are eras, mostly referring to when the deities were around, but also signaling the new world created by the apocalypse. BR is Before Reform and AR is After Reform. The 3000 Year Reset, while not backed by ancient texts, is a theory created by historians based on records from survivors at the time- that an ancient evil will rise from their cavern and wipe everything clean every 3000 years on the dot. Most people don't believe this theory but some do and hold it as gospel.
DOOMED TO INSANITY
Medkit
35 - 5'9"- he/him
Recently fled from Blackrock due to being the scapegoat of a major work accident, he lands at Overseer's door to become his personal brimstone processor and doctor. With his background in biomedical engineering he is a valuable asset on the back end and works hard to keep his co-workers healthy and ready for anything. After a period of trust building he's sent by Overseer's main benefactor, Chaos, to find Windforce and awaken her from slumber. Despite his chronic depression and eternal guilt he gets his job done and does it well. Yet to be seen if he can bring Windforce back or not.
almost a kiss - throbbing gristle
Scythe
47 - 5'11"- she/her
Overseer's number one assassin and apart of The Church of the True Eye. Loud, brash, reckless- she's everything that should fail but succeeds despite it. Her modified gear, extensive training, and unheard of experience give her an edge over even the most skilled of fighters- all doomed if they dare cross her path. Her perfect work record doesn't remove the blemish that is her social life though. Plagued with taboos committed in her younger years and a general lack of social competence she has a strained relationship with just about everyone she knows- including Father Overseer himself. Her life consists of work, late night parties, bad take out, botched friendships, and an unknown future that nags her at night.
The Broker
47 - 5'6"- he/him (butch style)
A jack of all trades for Overseer's operations and a member of The Church of the True Eye. Can fit any niche- a killer, a stalker, a distraction- a broker. Whatever Father Overseer needs he'll do. With seemingly infinite memory and inhuman strength he's able to accommodate with ease and strike fear into the hearts of those who dare cross him despite his cutesy appearance. He also has an inability to die! Wow! His explosive and precise anger is only reserved for his targets though, being quite amicable and outgoing with his family and friends. Even if you hate him you love him. Most are concerned for him though, him devoting his life to his love Scythe to a degree unhealthy even for church standards. He'll be fine though- it's Broker after all!

Father Overseer
?? - 7'5"- he/him
The Father- relief, salvation, a new beginning. The only priest of The Church of the True Eye and the manager of an underground business consisting of brimstone harvesting and other murder related activities. With his church he is calm, caring, and composed- maybe a bit unnerving- the only thing mattering to him is their happiness. With his employees... he's about the same. Despite his flowery personality he's ruthless and all seeing, punishing those who dare oppose his kin. Direct opposition is met with torment beyond imagination. With such a black and white demeanor and side gig as an organ harvester most are shocked to hear his one and only goal- creating a better world, even if the impact is small. It's why he started the church after all. The end goal of such roundabout means is yet to be seen.
Chaos
?? - 7'5"- he/him
A mob boss with so many people under him he's lost track of it all. Overseer's main source of initial funding, investing in his business for unclear reasons. His motivations across the board are unclear- running and funding a multitude of illegal businesses despite owning a chain of casino resorts, donating copious amounts of money to charity and other causes for good- a man of good fortune and good times without much clear history. The only things certain about him are his exceptionally good taste in cologne, knowledge in alcohol and obscenely large physique. There are other certainties- an insecurity with women, an aimless direction in life, his spark drowned out with work- but none acknowledge them. The idea of his presence is enough to deter any from prodding the bull.
FORGOTTEN TO TIME
Subspace
36 - 6'5"- she/her (closeted transmasc)
Blackrock's head robotics scientist and a spokesperson for any and all scientific advancements. Cheery, friendly, and kind, she's known as a sweetheart despite the physical degradation to her health- and the shift in mental stability after the accident that caused it. She works hard and is seen as a pillar of progress, a glimpse into the future with her Biograft project and plastic decomposing acids. Despite the intent in these projects not being harmful she gleefully approves their use in war to dismantle and disfigure Playgrounders, unknown to the general public and most of her colleagues. Success and money isn't enough to cure her ailment or bring back the one she lost though.
rabbit snare - throbbing gristle
Steampunk
19 - 6'4"- she/her
A boxing prodigy representing Playground, starting at the unreasonable but normalized for Playgrounders age of sixteen. Over the past three years she's gained an almost perfect record, sometimes even punching up at inphernals twice her size, representing her homeland and advocating for the end of the war. Despite gaining a reputation as being cold and calculated in the ring she's incredibly awkward and prone to giving into her anger. As a way to improve her flaws she becomes more and more religious as she ages- and in her religious traveling she stumbles across a crumbling church that once belonged to Windforce. With devotion and some clean up she eventually hears the voice of the sleeping deity and appointed to find a way to wake her from sleep with no clear instructions on how to do so. With two major responsibilities and all the teenage uncertainty of a nineteen year old the only thing she prays for now is a vacation.

Bad Luck
?? - 5'2"- he/him
Exclusively an employee under Overseer and not apart of the church. Roped into the business of killing at the average age of thirteen he's grown, matured, and hardened in Overseer's grasp. Through a will to escape the cycle of being on the streets to illegal money making common for Lost Temple's children he butts heads with Overseer quite often. He does his job with minimal complaining though. Despite circumstance he's laid back and outgoing, always willing to help albeit in his own unique way. Often described as having no filter and not being able to make an appropriate comment he, knowingly, draws a lot of eyes with his unorthodox way of doing things. He knows he's an acquired taste though and doesn't plan on changing anytime soon.
racing with the sun - chinese man
Dollmaker
27 - 6'- she/her
A member of The Church of the True Eye first, a seer for Overseer's business second. Jumping from one cult to another she believes she's escaping her old life of abuse into a new one full of personal space and freedom to pursue her hobbies in magick and toy making. While this is true she is oblivious to the fact the church is still a cult. Most of her days are spent reading her peers futures via tea scrying and tarot cards and making small doll mimicries of her loved ones and enemies. Using her gear she can give life to these dolls- making a direct connection between the real inphernal and toy. Many think she's changed her name to avoid heat due to such a strange and unclear ability, some even theorizing she's hiding her full capabilities. It bothers her to hear such rumors but she doesn't do anything about them.

Coil
17 - 5'2"- he/him
To most he's absolutely no one, a basement dweller in his infinitely more accomplished and recognized friend Skateboard's shadow, but to himself only he's the Crystal Thief putting a major wrench in Subspace's Biograft project. Not only has he been stealing and trashing Blackrock's work for the past three years, he's been deciphering blueprints and data on the newest Biograft models to get one step ahead of the men trying to tear his home apart. Naturally gifted both mentally and physically he's able to use his small frame to weave his way through their facilities and give them a headache beyond their wildest dreams. Outside of this he's a seventeen year old boy who likes collecting figurines. The lack of a real life outside of his few friends bothers him but he values his quiet contribution to the war against Blackrock more than developing his friendships- as much as he wishes to grow closer to anyone.

A WORSE WORLD
The Inpherno
From Lost Temple to Blackrock there are all forms of corruption, evil, and violence baked into every day life. To the borderline active warzone that is Playground with rampant gang activity, Blackrock's assault on Playground for land to build more factories on- Lost Temple's disorganized society based on personal survival, and Thieves Den's ignorance to it all. If you aren't in Crossroads you're probably struggling, and even then the melting pot of four factions mostly at odds with the other results in tension not seen elsewhere.Despite this the world is mostly calm. An underlying sense of dread and death don't discourage anyone from living their lives and having their fun, even if it's not completely healthy. Deep personal connections and found family are common in Lost Temple and Playground, while Blackrock and Thieves Den enjoy thriving economies and up to date cities. Most days are boring, average, and maybe even forgettable. Interpersonal connections are of more concern to most rather than a world they cannot fix and, despite the deep rooted evil in it, enjoy. Even with the state of each faction demons persist anyway and live to the fullest extent they can.
The Deities
The deities, also known as the Swords as a collective, were the creators of the world and all life on it. They nurtured those who worshiped them, kept things straight for those that didn't, and respected those in between or outside those bounds. Even deities such as Darkheart and Icedagger, representing more abstractly 'bad' concepts, were respected and worshiped all the same.At the apocalypse, the dawn of AR, they all seemingly vanished. Their presence still remains but the physical form is absent. From ancient texts preserved in old churches the only conclusion historians have come to is that they are currently hibernating after saving the world from complete extinction. So most still worship their respective deity- hoping that their prayer and devotion will wake up their gods someday soon to return the world to glory.Firebrand, The Father
The first born- the light, the beginning, the fire. The direct creator of all life in the Inpherno. Represents life, creation, warmth, and forgiveness. Even if someone doesn't directly worship him they still give tribute.Ghostwalker, The Mother
Born either shortly after Firebrand or at the same time. The ashes, the necessity, the end. Represents death, cycles, moving on, and peace. Always apart of funeral ceremonies and the originator of revival rituals.Illumina, The Mind
Born alongside his brother, Darkheart. The light, scales of justice, balance and order. Represents law, truth, relief, and stillness. The main deity worshiped in Blackrock. Law he wrote is still weaved into the fabric of reality.Darkheart, The Heart
Born alongside his brother, Illumina. The darkness, a wrench in your plans, the variety of life. Represents wisdom, trickery, and darkness. The main deity worshiped in Thieves Den, and the originator of unique thought.Windforce, The Gale
Born in the last trio of life, from war and conflict. Represents haste, strength, and passion. Known in modern times as The Last Bastion and Mother of Justice. The main deity worshiped in Playground and mother to Banhammer.Venomshank, The Bramble
Born in the last trio of life, from pestilence and destruction. Represents nature, resistance, and family. Medicine developed by him is still used to this day in all matters of hospitals.Icedagger, The Unfathomable
Born in the last trio of life, from famine and selfishness. Represents dark times, the cold, and uncertainty. His only lasting impact is the infinite winter Blackrock is plunged into for unknown reasons.
